Bhumichula plateau: A remnant high-elevation low-relief surface in the Himalayan thrust belt of western Nepal

چکیده

The Himalaya is known for dramatically rugged landscapes including the highest mountains in world. However, there a limited understanding of timing attainment high elevation and relief formation, especially Nepalese Himalaya. Anomalous high-elevation low-relief (HELR) surfaces, which exhibit geomorphic antiquity are possibly remnants formerly widespread paleosurfaces, provide unique opportunity to assess regional Bhumichula plateau one such HELR surface (4300−4800 m) western Himalayan fold-thrust belt. situated Dadeldhura klippe (also called Karnali klippe), an outlier Greater Sequence high-grade metasedimentary/igneous rocks surrounded by structurally underlying Lesser low-grade metasedimentary rocks. Along-strike changes in Himalayan thrust geometry: Topographic and tectonic discontinuities in western Nepal

Geodetic and seismologic studies support a tectonic model for the central Himalaya wherein ~2 cm/yr of Indo-Asian convergence is accommodated along the primary décollement under the range, the Main Himalayan thrust. A steeper midcrustal ramp in the Main Himalayan thrust is commonly invoked as driving rapid rock uplift along a range-parallel band in the Greater Himalaya. This tectonic model, dev...

focus on communication in iranian high school language classes: a study of the role of teaching materials in changing the focus onto communication in language classes

In situ development of high-elevation, low-relief landscapes via duplex deformation in the Eastern Himalayan hinterland, Bhutan

Prior studies have proposed tectonic and climatic mechanisms to explain surface uplift throughout the Bhutan Himalaya. While the resulting enigmatic, low-relief landscapes, elevated above deeply incised canyons, are a popular setting to test ideas of interacting tectonic and climatic forces, when and why these landscapes formed is still debated. We test the idea that these landscapes were creat...

Dramatic mass loss in extreme high-elevation areas of a western Himalayan glacier: observations and modeling

Rapid climate change at high elevations has accelerated glacier retreat in the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau. However, due to the lack of long-term glaciological measurements, there are still uncertainties regarding when the mass loss began and what the magnitude of mass loss is at such high elevations. Based on in situ glaciological observations during the past 9 years and a temperature-index ...

Geomorphometric features and tectonic activities in sub-Himalayan thrust belt, Pakistan, from satellite data

The sub-Himalayan thrust belt is an active thrust wedge which progresses southward over the northdipping Indian plate. The north–south compression resulted in severe deformation of sedimentary rocks in this belt. Distinct thrust geometries and topography have evolved under the interaction between tectonic and erosional environments. To better understand the relationship between tectonics and to...
